As a professional working in the military field, you will already be aware of the paramount role language plays in this highly demanding profession. This course has been developed for members of the armed forces who need to use English for international military cooperation and peacekeeping missions. It contains relevant, functional language which is immediately transferable to military situations. Vocabulary and accuracy are increased during authentic discussions, written communication and military planning activities and developed within a frame derived from NATOSTANAG 6001 proficiency guidelines.

Who is this course for?

We welcome any members of the armed forces to this course. This course is suitable for military and security personnel as well as peacekeepers, civil servant and diplomatics.

What are the course requirements?

We ask that you complete a short Needs Analysis. We may also ask for an online video assessment (eg. Skype) to establish your motivations and goals and to ascertain your level of English (B2 Upper Intermediate or above is ideal).

How long can I take this course for?

The course is as flexible as you need it to be. You can take it for as little as 1 week or for several months. Classes begin on the first Monday of any month and you can choose a time that is convienient to you – a morning class (9.15-12.30) or an afternoon class (12.40-16.35), or a combination of Professional English with your chosen specialisation for the 30-hour course.

  • Sequencing instructions
  • Individual weapons
  • Personal Equipment

 

Communicating you situation:
  • Accepting and rejecting invitations
  • Sending a radio report
  • Managing radio conversations.

 

The battalion – Analysing the situation and determining tasks: 
  • Describing military units
  • Describing responsibilities at work
  • Military units and jobs
  • Range safety

 

Developing courses of action:
  • Rules and regulations
  • Military routines
  • Airborne operations
  • Special operations

 

By the end of the course, you will have the skills and increased confidence to communicate in both speaking, writing and listening. Through a range of published material and simulated activities with teachers and other students, you will find that you have far greater understanding of your profession in international terms and an increased awareness of effective phrases to use in various demanding situations in both practical and office-based roles.
