    • !!!Aldenham School is just North West of London and is a traditional independent school in the quiet countryside. Over 400 years ago Queen Elizabeth I herself gave permission for the school to be built. The school mixes tradition with modern facilities and provides the benefits of a countryside campus with easy access to central London, which is less than an hour away on public transport. All the school’s facilities are in a compact, closed campus, so the accommodation, dining room, classrooms and sports facilities are all a short walk from each other.

    Course details

    The summer English courses are designed to give students the opportunity to practice their English in a friendly, multicultural environment. Students are actively encouraged to practice their English with students from other nationalities, both in class and outside. The school concentrates on raising their confidence and fluency, and bringing out the English they already know, but can’t yet use.

    About the courses:

    • Five levels from Elementary to Advanced
    • All students are tested on arrival to grade their spoken and written English to place them in the class of the correct level
    • 15 hours of teaching per week from qualified teachers including project work to allow them to use their English creatively and learn more about British culture and history
    • A certificate on completion of their course

    Excursions

    Half day excursions may include: London Science Museum, London Aquarium, Camden market, London City cruise.

    Full day excursions may include: Oxford, Warwick Castle, Cambridge, Windsor Castle, Brighton.

    Optional excursions may include: Thorpe Park, London Zoo, Brighton, Madame Tussauds, London Eye, Theatre visit, Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

    Accommodation

    Living in a residence gives students the opportunity to mix with other international students from all over the world, providing a natural environment for practicing English! Where students share rooms the staff usually places them with students of a different nationality to practice their English with. Many of the students return year after year making life-long friendships!

    Students will be placed in single, twin or multi-bedded accommodation with shared bathrooms. Ensuite rooms may also be available at a supplement. Most of the accommodation buildings have their own common rooms where students can talk, socialise, or just watch TV. Girls and boys are accommodated in separate accommodation – either different buildings or floors.

    Most meals are in the schools’ dining room with a choice of menus including a vegetarian option and healthy salads. Students with allergies/intolerances can also be catered for – please let us know in advance! Drinks and snacks are also available at break times from the school’s tuck shop.

    FREE London Experience: 2 afternoons and an evening per week & one full day every 2 weeks in the heart of London; sightseeing tours, shopping trips & visits to London’s famous museums. This is in addition to one full day trip per week to places outside of London.

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    There are two types of accommodation you can choose:

    1. Homestay
    If you want to fully immerse yourself in English culture then you may enjoy homestay accommodation. You will live with a local family with breakfast and an evening meal included. On Sundays, lunch will also be included.

    Homestay hosts may be older people whose children have left home, they may be a full family with children, they may be a younger couple or single people: the school has over 200 hosts in the city, so the school will always try to place you in a suitable home.

    The homestay department spend a lot of time and care finding the host families and the homestay co-ordinator is in school every day in case you have any questions or difficulties. The school listens to your preferences (some people don’t want to live with pets, for example) and the school can also cater for special diets, e.g. vegetarian or halal.

    Most of the homestays are situated in the suburbs and are 20-40 minutes from the city centre by public transport [bus or train]. The school has no homestays in the city centre. All families have been visited by the school and had a security check.
