One of the main goals of my work is not only to help students with the choice of study programme abroad and getting a place on it, but also to popularize the English language among Russian-speaking students.
One way to accomplish this is to organize and participate in international, cross-cultural seminars and meetings. ⠀
I am pleased to report that this is not the first time that we have come to Russia with our colleagues and teachers from the British language school, Churchill House School of English, at the invitation of Galina Laiko to attend a seminar and conduct English lessons for children.. ⠀
We were pleasantly surprised at how prepared we were for our meeting: the children sang and talked about Russian and English literature in English, there was a lot of attention paid to this event and the English language teachers were able to attend the open lessons of our British teachers and learn new techniques from them. ⠀
I brought a cardboard cut-out of Queen Elizabeth II with me, which has generated genuine interest from teachers and children alike
I am pleased that thanks to our joint project with Churchill House School of English, with whom I have been working for 8 years, and the director of SOS 28, Galina Laiko, the English teachers in secondary schools were able to get the opportunity to talk with our native speakers, learn new teaching techniques, and gain a new impetus for their teaching.
As part of the international seminar based at Kratov’s SOS 28 refresher courses for English teachers were conducted by the English teachers from Churchill House School of English.
Teachers were able to attend 4 seminars:
- Overcoming communication difficulties
- The use of video in the classroom
- The effect of intonation in communication
- The role of critical thinking in the classroom
The teachers’ feedback on this project speaks for themselves:
“I loved it!! This is a significant and useful event this year.”
“Professionalism and qualifications of British teachers at the highest level”»
“Everything was magical. I’m ecstatic!”!»
“You inspire further language improvement!” !»
«Amazing atmosphere, fantastic teachers!»
In the end, each teacher received a certificate from a school accredited by the British Council and English UK.
We, the organizers of such an event, undertook a lot of painstaking preparatory work, but when you see how important it is and the needs of the teachers, you realise the importance of doing everything correctly.
