The UK has much to offer international postgraduates. The reputation of its universities is second to none, including prestigious ‘ancient universities’ such as Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh and St Andrews as well as a range of younger institutions offering innovative Masters degrees and MBAs supported by modern research and training facilities.
Master Degree
Studying a Masters abroad in the UK will also allow you to visit famous cities like London or Edinburgh, discovering their rich history and exploring the food, drink and entertainments of one of the world’s most multicultural and cosmopolitan countries.
Masters degree is the most commonly taken postgraduate qualification. It typically lasts for between one and four years, depending on the mode of study.
While having a Masters degree can greatly improve your career prospects, the high costs and demands mean that this method of postgraduate study isn’t for everyone.
How long is a Masters degree in the UK?
Full-time Masters degrees usually involve one or two years of study, while part-time programmes last between two and four years. Courses normally begin in September or October, though some start in January or February.
What’s the difference between undergraduate and postgraduate study?
Compared to undergraduate degrees, Masters degrees are usually:
MBA
The Master of Business Administration, or MBA, is a prestigious postgraduate qualification that employers value extremely highly. Taking an MBA in the UK can greatly boost your salary, professional reputation and networking opportunities.
A one year top-ranked MBA course comprising an intensive series of stimulating lectures, energetic seminars and small group work, which can take students anywhere in the world.
If you’re a graduate or professional with ambitions for a high-flying career in business, then studying for an MBA could be just what you need. It’s a postgraduate course that typically takes one year to complete full time, or two years part time – though some programmes are longer.
You’ll gain an overview of key business practices, and develop skills in areas such as management, marketing and accounting. An MBA is often a route to promotion or a career change. However, it’s academically challenging and a major financial commitment, so you should be certain that it’s the right choice for you before making a decision.
Pre-Master Course
A Pre-Masters is for international students who need to improve their English and academic skills ahead of a taught masters degree. Pre-Masters programmes in the UK are designed to prepare international students fully for studying at postgraduate level and deliver high quality students.
Courses range in length from ten weeks to twelve months and provide an essential grounding for successful postgraduate study. A Pre-Masters will greatly increase the English language and study skills required for successful postgraduate study, as well as familiarising international students with UK teaching methods.
You will need to take a Pre-Masters if:
