There are only a few days left before the announcement of the results A-level exams! Many of my students and their parents are looking forward to this moment, because it will immediately become clear, did they get into the university they dreamed of?
If you remember, I was at the UCAS conference and promised to show you the UCL campus I visited. I also managed to talk with representatives of the admissions committee, who said that the number of applicants this year was simply unprecedented due to the consequences of the pandemic, as so many students applied for this year, having skipped the previous two years.
Of course, UCL is the ultimate dream for many…
It is the leader among British universities in terms of the volume of scientific research, and the number of women professors.
It is considered one of the best in the country for teaching biomedicine, chemistry, social sciences, psychology, linguistics, architecture and construction, computer science.
UCL’s main campus is located in central London, home to over 90 academic, cultural, research, scientific and media organisations. This allows the university to successfully collaborate with many of them, creating additional opportunities for students and staff. UCL’s partners include the British Museum and the British Library, the Zoological Society of London, the Institute of Physics, RIBA, the BBC, the Welcome Trust, etc.
Recently, the university’s Faculty of Civil Engineering and Engineering Sciences have moved to a new location within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. In 2019, the construction of another campus, UCL East, began here. Now it is finished, we were shown the project that has already been implemented, in which students began studying from September 2023 in the areas of BA Media, BA Creative Arts and Humanities, MEng Engineering and Architectural Design, MEng in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence etc.
It must be said that this university is not the only one expanding. UAL’s London College of Fashion also came here,
and there are branches of the University of West London, Loughborough University, etc.,
Thanks to the new development plan of the British government in East London, since 2012 the Stratford district has been re- developed to include an academic quarter. As a result, there should be at least 10,000 students, and about 2,500 new jobs created. The entire project is expected to bring in up to $1.5 billion to the city’s economy.
I was also able to visit the student dormitories, which are located on the upper floors of the campus. Almost every room has a beautiful view of the city!
