Representatives of Study British English (SBE) visited Bury Language School (BLS) and are keen to share their information with you! First of all, we noted the convenient location of the school, which is located in the city of Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk, 3 hours from the centre of London and 30 minutes from Cambridge.
The attractive and historic town of Bury St Edmunds began with a Benedictine monastery founded to house the remains of St Edmund, the last Saxon king of East Anglia who was tortured and beheaded by Danish looters in 869. Almost two hundred years later, England was briefly ruled by Danish kings, and the most astute of them, King Canute, made a gesture of reconciliation, giving the monastery a generous donation and building a new church in his name. Much of the abbey has long since disappeared, and today Bury St Edmunds is better known for its elegant Georgian streets, flowering gardens and beet sugar factory than its ancient monuments.
As for Bury Language School, from an educational point of view it has a solid foundation, it is accredited by the British Council and is a member of English UK. It offers its students comfortable classrooms, a library, an independent study room, and, most importantly, strives to create a warm homely atmosphere. English language education is conducted at all levels – from primary to professional. All this gives a special atmosphere and contributes to the comprehensive development of the students.
The school offers its students accommodation with English families with different levels of freedom and comfort and accordingly, with different costs. You can also choose Executive Homestay (enhanced comfort level with private bath and meals), and Self-catering for more adult and self-employed students (full self-service, without meals).
It is important to note that Bury Language School children’s and adult learning centres are housed in two beautiful buildings. SBE staff visited both centres and were satisfied not only with the conditions, but also with their comfortable location, the school itself and the quiet, cosy town with a measured pace of life in general.
